Day 12
It was a Saturday afternoon and Ladder 17 was on the scene. It ended up being a false alarm.

Day 11
Saved this custom built workshop desk from a potential trip to the dumpster. It even has a vice!
Day 9 Revised
Wondering if using a GIF instead of uploading an MOV works better for showing the work?
Day 10
Was able to set up the landscape animation slate today. I’m eventually going to tuck the projector into the ceiling and out of the way, but it was nice to be able to see it up and running again. I’ve had it tucked away for the past few years because I just didn’t have the space to put it up. Oh, Bronx, how I love you and your seemingly endless space…
Day 9
Juuuust a little bit of animation to get the juices flowing. Everything is set up and the camera and computer and everything are all lubed up and nailed down to the floor.
Day 8
Finished setting up. I guess it’s time to get to work. :)
Day 7
In the morning no slates were on the wall but Gary Millus and Matthew Caulfield used the new workbench (you can see a corner of it) to make it happen.
Day 6
Perfect way to end the first week!
Day 5
Office or break room, or some room that doesn’t really have a purpose yet.
Day 4
The Internet.
Day 3
Set up workstation.
Day 2
Morning light after moving stuff and boxes and gear into the new space.
Day 1
Signing the lease for the new space in the South Bronx.
Devin Home Movies from Dustin Grella on Vimeo.
Today would be my little brother Devin’s 30th Birthday. My uncle Art always carried around one of those two-piece VCRs with a camera so heavy you could only hold it up for a few minutes. But he’s a big guy and managed to carry it around for twenty years, and these are some of the clips that shot of Devin over those years. There wasn’t a lot of later footage, 18-21, maybe somebody can send me that? Devin, you are sorely missed. Gone, but certainly not forgotten.

I built a little television and phone system to collect messages and it has been set up in the Hollywood Theater in Portland, Oregon for the upcoming NW Animation Festival.

The Animation Hotline Hotspot has been set up in the Hollywood Theater in Portland, Oregon and has been harvesting tons and tons of messages! Thanks so much for participating. Here is a little one about someone’s breakfast, love the inflection in his voice.
Animation Hotline is a series of short animations where potentially anonymous messages on my voice-mail provide the content for these sometimes insightful, sometimes bizarre micro-shorts. If you have a story give me a call:

Animation Hotline: The Tow from Dustin Grella on Vimeo.
This is one of my most favorite animations I’ve done in a long time. It was so simple but I’m really please with how the two parts came together. This morning when I was thinking about it I said to myself that I should just do them all like this from now on, but then I figured that would defeat the whole joy of experimenting and finding new and exciting possibilities.

Illustration Friday: Farewell Penelope from Dustin Grella on Vimeo.
I used to submit these little animations to Illustration Friday, and even though they weren’t exactly illustrations, there was an illustrative element to them and it was a fun project. Penelope Dullaghan is moving on after running the site for ten years. Ten years? It sounds like such a long time.
